15 killed in road mishaps

GUNTUR, MARCH 26. Fifteen persons were killed in road mishaps in the State in the last 24 hours.

Six persons were killed and 16 others injured when a sand-laden lorry overturned at Ootukuru village in Atchempeta mandal of Guntur district this afternoon.

Twenty-five persons returning from annual festival of village deity at Konuru in Atchampeta mandal boarded the lorry. The lorry overturned 13 km from Atchempeta where the road is very narrow.

All six died of asphyxiation when they were buried under the sand.

CUDDAPAH: Three persons were killed and an equal number injured after an autorickshaw and a jeep collided with each other at Gudipadu in Duvvur mandal last night.

They were proceeding to Duvvur to listen to Harikatha as part of Gangamma jathara.

The injured persons were jeep passengers, and were on their way to Tirupati.

Sangareddy: Three persons died in two accidents in Manoor mandal of Medak district.

Seshugonda (30) of Yelgoi died on the spot while trying to escape from a crowd that was spraying colour near Timmapur on his way to Narayanked today. He along his friend, Mohammad Yadul, who was riding a motorcycle, fell in a bid to avoid the crowd. Seshugonda died on the spot. Rathod Vinod (23) and Gyani Nath (22), both residents of Border thanda of Bidar district in Karnataka, died in a hit-and-run accident near Karazgutti of Manoor mandal last night.

The two were on their way to Manoor to celebrate Holi.

NIZAMABAD: Two youngsters were killed and another seriously was injured when the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a lorry at Kamareddy on Saturday.

According to information reaching here, the mishap occurred when nine youths were returning to the town on three motorcycles after taking bath in Peddacheruvu after Holi revelry.
