Stress on public-private partnership in TB control

CHENNAI, MARCH 26. The chairman of Respiratory Research Foundation, R. Narasimhan, underscored the need for increased public-private partnership to control tuberculosis.

Addressing a seminar in connection with World TB Day recently, Dr. Narasimhan said TB was fast becoming a global epidemic, adding 1.9 million new cases every year.

There are an estimated 8.9 million people infected with TB of which 3.9 million were sputum positive.

Soumya Swaminathan, Deputy Director of TB Research Centre, called for steps to identify symptoms and make available to patients the treatment facilities provided by the Government. An interactive session was also held.

The seminar was held in association with Lupin Respiratory, Rotary Clubs of Madras North West and Chennai Mambalam and Madras Silver Beach.
