BANGALORE, MARCH 26. Truck drivers blocked the Ring Road in Hennur and brought traffic to a halt on Saturday morning after one of them was allegedly assaulted by a traffic police sub-inspector. The police said that around 10.30 a.m. Venkatesh, sub-inspector, Hennur traffic sub-division, allegedly assaulted a truck driver who had parked his vehicle near the BESCOM office on the Ring Road. Enraged by the assault on the driver, around 100 truck drivers stopped their vehicles on the Ring Road blocking traffic and demanded stern action against Mr. Venkatesh. As the situation was getting tense and also vehicular movement was being affected on the busy road, senior police officials rushed to the spot. They pacified the drivers and dispersed them after assuring them that action would be taken against the sub-inspector. The police diverted traffic during the protest and ensured that there was no pile up on the Ring Road, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), N. Shiva Kumar, told The Hindu . No untoward incident was reported during the protest, he said. On March 16, Goruguntepalya on Tumkur Road witnessed large-scale violence after a traffic police sub-inspector allegedly assaulted a Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus driver who had jumped the traffic signal.
