Marathe stars in India's win

DURBAN, MARCH 27. Left-arm spinner Deepa Marathe's `eve of the match' performance of four for one helped India beat South Africa by four wickets in a women's World Cup match at Pretoria on Saturday.

Batting first, the host was skittled out for 80 in 34.3 overs and India reached the target in 25 overs.

The scores:

South Africa 80 in 34.3 overs (Johmari Logtenberg 26, Deepa Marathe four for 1, Amita Sharma three for 23) lost to India 81 for six in 25 overs (Rumeli Dhar 33 n.o., Alicia Smith four for 19).

Sri Lanka 58 in 34.3 overs lost to New Zealand 59 for three in 18.4 overs.

England 221 for six in 50 overs (C. Connor 82 not out, Arran Brindle 51) bt Ireland 93 for eight in 50 overs.

Australia 230 in 49.2 overs (K. Rolton 69, L. Keightly 56) bt West Indies 151 in 48.3 overs (J. Nero 40). — Agencies
