LONDON, MARCH 27. Cross-border love story Veer Zaara and patriotic saga Swades took the honours at the star-studded Zee Cine Awards 2005 function here, winning five awards each. Produced by Yash Raj Films, Veer Zaara, the love story of an Indian man and a Pakistani girl won the Best Film Award besides laurels for Shah Rukh Khan (Best Actor) and the director, Yash Chopra, who took home the `Yash Johar Producer of the Year award' and the Best Director Award for the blockbuster. Shah Rukh Khan, who stole the hearts of the audience with his stage performance, also received a diamond ring with his trophy. Divya Dutta won the award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role (Female) for Veer Zaara. Chopra announced that though he would continue to direct films, he would henceforth not contest for any awards and leave the field open for other directors. Ashutosh Gowariker bagged the Best Director (Critics) Award for Swades which also won awards for the Best Story (Ashutosh Gowariker-M. G. Sathya), the Best Lyrics (Javed Akhtar), the Best Debut Performance (Gayatri Joshi) and the Best Recording (Hitendra Ghosh). Rani Mukherjee won the Best Actress Award for her role in Hum Tum. PTI
