Resolve Kashmir to prevent another Kargil: Musharraf

ISLAMABAD, MARCH 27. India and Pakistan should adopt a ``positive'' attitude towards the Kargil war and resolve the Kashmir issue to prevent repetition of Kargil-type incidents, the Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, has said. To an e-mail query sent by an Indian to his Presidential website, Gen. Musharraf said reunification of the two nations was not possible. They could establish close ties if the Kashmir issue was resolved.

On the Kargil war, he said: ``I do not want to enter into a debate as to who won and who lost." According to him, neither side will accept the other's claim and "we will end up debating it.'' Claiming that India has ``misquoted'' the casualty figures, which according to him was ``very high,'' he said the reports in the media spoke of several ``problems'' faced by the Indian Army during Kargil. He said the conflict was an offshoot of the Kashmir dispute and the result of several ``intrusions'' by India after the Shimla Accord.

"Let us take an optimistic and positive attitude towards it. Stop discussing who won and who lost. What is the future? Resolve disputes so that Siachens, Kargils, Marpolas and Chorbatlas do not happen again. Let us resolve the dispute of Kashmir,'' he said. — PTI
