Anantapur
By Our Staff Reporter
ANANTAPUR, MARCH 28. The kin of Gangula Suryanarayana Reddy alias Suri have alleged that some Congress leaders, particularly the Minister for Panchayat Raj, J.C. Diwakar Reddy, are coming in the way of the party nominating G. Bhanumati, Suri's wife, as candidate for the Penukonda Assembly byelection. Talking to mediapersons here on Monday, after the Suri followers, including his kin, were prevented by the police from going towards court, the paternal uncle of Suri, G. Thimma Reddy, and a distant cousin, Srinivasa Reddy, claimed that Suri was not involved in the Paritala Ravindra murder.
Implication bid
They alleged that some forces were trying to fix Suri in the case. They criticised the police for not allowing Suri followers to watch their leader after a long gap. A large number of police men were deployed in villages like Maddelacheruvu, Nagaluru, Tagarakunta and others to prevent Suri followers from leaving for Anantapur. Those who managed to reach the outskirts of Anantapur were prevented entry by the police and their vehicles were deflated, they stated. It was because of Ms. Bhanumati, that the Congress was rejuvenated in the Penukonda constituency, they claimed. The leadership of Ms. Bhanumati had helped the party win Hindupur Lok Sabha seat, though she had lost the Penukonda election due to highhandedness of opponents, they stated. In spite of such service to the party leaders like Mr. Diwakar Reddy were objecting to the candidature of Ms. Bhanumati, they alleged.
