Merger of banks

Sir, — Finance Minister P. Chidambaram says mergers and consolidations of public sector banks will lead to creation of jobs. On the contrary, they will result in job losses due to closure of bank branches. It is well known that if a small bank merges with a bigger one, the service conditions of the employees of the former will be at the mercy of the latter.
