SHIMOGA, MARCH 28. The Minister for Women and Child Welfare, Bhagirathi Marulasiddanagowda, has said that the Government will consider the demand for setting up a revolving fund and other facilities, such as community halls for Stree Shakti groups and other self-help groups (SHGs). She was speaking to delegations of Tunga SHG and Stree Shakti Groups Federation of Shimoga taluk and the Kumudwati Self-Help Groups and Stree Shakthi Groups Federation of Shikaripur taluk, which submitted a memorandum to the Minister here on Saturday. The delegates told the Minister that of the 7,000 SHGs in Shimoga district, 3,000 were Stree Shakti groups. It is unfortunate that the Government is neglecting the SHGs while giving preference to Stree Shakti groups. The SHGs faced discrimination in the release of funds. The delegates sought better medical care and facilities in government hospitals for poor patients. The SHG members will be constrained to launch an agitation if the Government does not concede their demands immediately, the delegates told the Minister. Nagarathnamma, Vijaya Patil, Lakshmidevamma, D.S. Pushpa, and Yashodamma led the delegations.
