Bill to protect tenants tabled
HYDERABAD,
MARCH 28.
A bill to regulate the increase in rents of residential buildings and protect tenants from arbitrary eviction was introduced in the Assembly on Monday.
The AP Buildings (Lease, Rent and Eviction) Control Amendment Bill, which was tabled by the Finance Minister, K. Rosaiah, also seeks to ensure compliance with legal obligations and stimulate private sector investment in rental housing.
The provisions of the Bill will not apply to (1) any building the rent of which does not exceed Rs.3,500 a month in the areas under municipal corporations and Rs.2,000 a month in other areas, (2) any building constructed or substantially renovated either before or after the commencement of the Act for a period of 15 years from the date of completion of construction/renovation and (3) right to recover immediate possession to certain specified categories like the State or Central Government employees, members of armed forces, widows, aged and the handicapped.
Another bill to amend the AP (Agricultural Produce and Livestock) Markets Act, 1966, was introduced by the Panchayat Raj Minister, J.C.Diwaker Reddy. The amendment seeks to give effect to the recommendations of a group of State Ministers for establishing private/special markets, national integrated produce markets for NDDB and contract farming.
