Visakhapatnam
By Our Special Correspondent
VISAKHAPATNAM, MARCH 28. Several development programmes have been launched in the district in the recent past and some more tourism projects are also coming up, the Collector, Praveen Prakash, told reporters here on Monday. The Government had released Rs. 40 crores towards establishment of the Special Economic Zone near the city and the district administration had sought another Rs. 100 crores, he said. Regarding Spandana, he said that more problems bothering people were coming to light and the programme had helped the administration understand the situation better. The officials were solving the problems according to a plan and methodology. Most of the problems pertained to unemployment and housing.
Heavy rush
A large number of petitioners once again thronged the Collectorate to submit their petitions at Spandana and to pursue the applications they had submitted in the past. A visually impaired couple, P. Appala Naidu and Kotamma of RH Colony, Pothinamallayyapalem, who were mostly dependent on the generosity of the people around, wanted a patta granted to them for the piece of land on which they were living now. Fortunately for them both their children have normal vision. They alleged that a hut raised by them on the site was demolished by some local people. There was no response to the petitions submitted during Spandana four times in the past, they lamented.
