School gets new building

KARWAR, MARCH 28. The 145-year-old Government Primary School at Haliyal, popularly known as MLA's Model Primary School, has got a new building. Ravindra Uppal, vice-chairman and managing director of ABB Ltd., Bangalore, which financed the construction of the building, inaugurated it recently.

He said his company has always supported the cause of education in rural areas. He promised to finance the construction of four more rooms.

The Minister for Cooperation, R.V. Deshpande, said it is heartening to note that industries are partnering the Government in development activities.

Thanking Mr. Uppal for his endeavour, he promised that he would provide furniture to the school.

S.L. Ghotnekar, Chairman of KDCC Bank, Sirsi; S.V. Nuchamble, president of School Development and Management Committee; the Deputy Commissioner, Ritesh Kumar Singh; the CEO of the Uttara Kannada Zilla Panchayat, Shivanand Murthy; and Superintendent of Police, S. Ravi, were present.
