Madras Telugu Academy to honour writer, dancer

CHENNAI, MARCH 28. The Madras Telugu Academy, which is celebrating its silver jubilee this year, will honour N.R. Chendur, writer-editor and Jayanthi Subramaniam, a dancer with the Samaikya Bharath Swarna Puraskar at a function to be held at Music Academy on April 3.

"The award carrying a cash prize of Rs.1,01,116 will be given to the two on the occasion," T.V.K. Shastry, founder and chief convener of the academy said at a press conference, here on Saturday.

P. Obul Reddy, chairman of Madras Telugu Academy will be given a special mention award. Thirtyfive students from 28 States and seven Union Territories who have excelled in the academic year 2003-2004 will be awarded a scholarship of Rs.6,000 each.

Dr. Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Telugu actor, will preside over the one-day festival that would feature vocal music, ballet, drama and light music.

Eminent personalities from all walks of life would take part.
