Sir, It is not clear why bank employees should agitate against the Government proposal to merge public sector banks. They should understand that stronger banks can have a wider reach and command over the market, particularly in the context of global competition.

Sir, The question is with whom are we going to compete and what for. Will not social banking, the bedrock of the nationalisation of banks, be the biggest casualty if they are merged and consolidated? Economies of scale and competition are only an alibi for facilitating the flow of foreign capital.
