BELGAUM, MARCH 29. Agriculture and allied activities have once again been given priority in the annual District Credit Plan for 2005-06. The plan, with outlay fixed at Rs. 1,325 crores, was released here on Tuesday. Of the allocation of Rs. 1,125 crores for priority sector, Rs. 748 crores goes to agriculture and allied activities. According to a release, the banks involved in the credit plan have taken note of various resources such as recovery, infrastructure, NABARD refinance, deposits and past experience while formulating the plan. The plan outlay of government agencies under various government-sponsored schemes have been incorporated in the plan in anticipation of continuation of such schemes. Tertiary sector and non-farm sector get Rs. 311 crores and Rs. 64 crores respectively. Farm mechanisation, a major sub-sector of agriculture, has been allocated Rs. 53 crores. A sum of Rs. 16 crores has been deployed for financing land development. It has been proposed to assist 5,867 beneficiaries under various activities under minor irrigation schemes while for plantation and horticulture, the allocation is Rs. 23 crores. In all, 6,663 beneficiaries will get credit under Dairy Development Programme (Rs. 18 crores). For lending under government-sponsored schemes, the allocation is Rs. 166 crores. The banks have been given a target of linking 2,500 self-help groups.
