MANGALORE, MARCH 29. The Dakhshina Kannada district administration does not expect any trouble from tsunami tidal waves in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts, in the wake of the earthquake off Sumatra on Monday, according to the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, Arvind Srivatsava. Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Srivatsava said the earthquake this time did not trigger any tsunami tidal waves and hence the tsunami alarm issued last night in the coastal States has been withdrawn now. The district administration had also made enquiries with the New Mangalore Port if there was any abnormal rise in the water level. The port authorities had replied in the negative. Mr. Srivastva said even in December 2004, there was only a vertical rise in the seawaters off the Dakshina Kannada district unlike on the eastern coast of India.
