TIRUNELVELI, MARCH 29. Training for 300 armed reserve police personnel in adventure sports such as rock climbing, para-sailing, para-plane flying, micro-lite plane flying commenced at Tamil Nadu Special Police IX Battalion in Manimuthar today. The National Adventure Foundation, a Thiruvananthapuram-based non-governmental organisation, formed to promote adventure sports, led by Wg. Cdr. (retd.) S.K.J. Nair, will impart training to the participants, drawn from 12 battalions across the State. The Inspector General of Police, Armed Police, M. Balachandran, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Armed Police, M.S. Jaffar Sait, and Commandants from all special police battalions participated in the inaugural function. For the first time, NAF is giving training to the police personnel on flying in the para-plane, a flying machine imported from the United States. Speaking to reporters, Mr. Balachandran said training in adventure sports was being imparted to the police personnel in a bid to provide them a strong physique and to instil courage and confidence in the minds of the young law-enforcers.
