ALAPPUZHA, MARCH 29. An inspection conducted by the officials of the State Pollution Control Board (PCB) at the prawn peeling sheds and meat processing centres in and around Kakkazham, near Ambalappuzha in the district found that they were polluting the Kappithode, a canal there, and other water bodies in the area. The district administration had recently asked the peeling sheds and meat processing centres there to ensure that they discharged wastewater into the Kappithode only after proper treatment. The authorities intervened in the issue following complaints from the public that pollution of Kappithode was creating health problems.
