MUMBAI, MARCH 29. Karnataka went down fighting 1-2 to Vidarbha in the men's category, with Shankar Manidiwar's decisive 25-15, 25-9 win over Dilip Kumar tilting the scales in the 34th senior National & Inter-State carrom championships on Tuesday. The opening day team championship saw Bengal defeat Chandigarh 2-1 in the women's section, Sahana Mitra holding her nerve in the decider, clinching a 5-18, 24-11, 25-12 verdict over Bhanu Jain. Karnataka went ahead through S. Saleem's 25-7, 13-25, 24-5 victory over Tomeshwar Parate in the opening Zone II tie at the Andheri Sports complex, Nitin Meshram drew level over three games against T. Shankara, winning 18-16, 0-25, 25-0. Manidiwar won the decider to spark joy in Karnataka camp. The Nationals was inaugurated by Maharashtra Minister of State for Medical, Higher & Technical Education, Suresh Shetty.
