UDUPI, MARCH 29. Karambally Sanjeeva Shetty, former MLC, passed away here today after a brief illness. He was 78. Mr. Shetty was born on March 15, 1928 at Karambally in Shivally village near Udupi. He served as a lecturer at Manipal, the erstwhile Regional Engineering College in Surathkal and Davangere. He had close contacts with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the Jan Sangh and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He served as General Secretary of the BJP State unit. He was elected twice from the teachers' constituency to the Legislative Council. The district unit of the BJP mourned the death of Mr. Shetty in an emergency meeting. Manorama Madhwaraj, MP; the Vice-President of the State unit of the BJP, A.G. Kodgi; and the BJP leaders Katapady Shankar Poojary, Kota Srinivas Poojary, Udaykumar Shetty, Baikady Suprasad Shetty, K.P. Shenoy and Chittaranjandas Hegde paid tributes to Mr. Shetty.
