Swimming
BANGALORE, MARCH 29. The Swimming Federation of India (SFI) has named noted trainer S. Pradeep Kumar of Karnataka as the chief National coach. Pradeep Kumar, as a leading coach of the State, has trained some of the top national swimmers and has played a key role in Karnataka maintaining its supremacy in the sport. Pradeep Kumar told The Hindu, "A great responsibility has been given to me and I will do my best to raise the standard of Indian swimming.'' His immediate priority would be to prepare the Indian squads for the World meet in Canada slated in June and for the Asian age group championship in Bangkok in August. Pradeep Kumar also stressed the need for corporate support. "The world over, swimming enjoys a high place in terms of sponsorship and exposure and we too could do that here if we devise the right approach and rope in sponsors. I think we can get that with active support from SFI and SAI,'' he said.
