Produce records in attempt to murder case: Madurai Bench

By Our Staff Reporter

MADURAI, MARCH 29. The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court today directed the prosecution to produce all records in an attempt to murder case registered against a former advocate of Jayalakshmi on a complaint preferred by her.

Adjourning till tomorrow an anticipatory bail petition moved by the advocate , Justice M. Chockalingam directed the additional public prosecutor to produce the statements of police personnel, who stood guard at the Sivakasi woman's residence, recorded under Section 161 of Cr. P. C. (examination of witnesses by police); the medical examination report of the complainant and a report on the investigation conducted so far.

Charges against police

Ms. Jayalakshmi (32), when produced before the Bench in August last following a habeas corpus petition moved by her father, levelled charges, including sexual harassment and bigamy, against more than 20 police officers leading to a Central Bureau of Investigation probe. Handing over the investigation to the Central agency, the Bench directed the State police to provide necessary security to the woman until further orders. The CBI is expected to file the final report by April 4.

Ms. Jayalakshmi preferred a complaint against the advocate, M. Alagarsamy, at the S.S. Colony police station here on March 27, alleging that he tried to strangulate her with a dupatta. The advocate too filed a counter-complaint at the station yesterday alleging that she assaulted him following a wordy duel between them. He withdrew his vakalat from her case in January this year.

Anticipatory bail plea

Ms. Jayalakshmi also moved an anticipatory bail application in the counter case preferred by Mr. Alagarsamy. The petition will come up for hearing tomorrow.
