Gangadharan, George let down Congress: Hassan

By Our Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA, MARCH 29. The Congress leader M.M. Hassan has backed the allegation of the Congress Legislature Party secretary, K.C. Joseph, that the party MLAs M.P. Gangadharan and P.P. George had worked against the interests of the party while presenting its case before the Constituency Delimitation Commission. Mr. Hassan told presspersons here today that Mr. Gangadharan and Mr. George became members of the Delimitation Commission in their capacity as deputy leader of the legislature party and chief whip, respectively. Even if the party MLAs had not aired their views to be submitted before the commission, the two leaders should have presented the party's case well in its larger interests, he added.

According to him, all Congress leaders in the State, except those who faced disciplinary action initiated by the party high command, will participate in the regional rallies being organised by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). Rallies organised by different groups would only weaken the Congress, besides worsening inner-party discipline. Any attempt to divide the party should be checked, he added.

He said the former KPCC president K. Muraleedharan was suspended from the party for not obeying the directions of the high command and not for criticising the Chief Minister, Oommen Chand, and the State Government. Mr. Hassan said those who defied the directions of the high command should be ousted to ensure inner-party discipline. The leadership had adopted a soft stand towards the senior leader K. Karunakaran, considering his contributions to the party, he added.

Conspiracy suspected

Mr. Hassan said there was every reason to suspect a political conspiracy behind the leak of Secondary School Leaving Certificate question papers. The culprits should be brought to the book, he added.

Earlier, Mr. Hassan inaugurated a Congress leaders' meeting organised by the District Congress Committee (DCC) at Pathanamthitta Town Hall as prelude to the regional rally in Thiruvananthapuram.
