Khalsa Blues, Police AC post wins

KOLKATA, MARCH 29. The Indian Oil 110th all-India Beighton Cup hockey tournament got off to a fine start with two local outfits moving into the second round here on Tuesday.

Khalsa Blues pumped in three goals without reply from Howrah Training Centre at the Mohammedan Sporting ground, while the host, Calcutta Cricket & Football Club (CCFC), went down to Police AC by the odd goal in three.

P. Paswan, Yakub Sanga and Gurmeet Singh struck in succession in the first half against the Howrah side and qualified to meet Calcutta Port Trust in the next round on Wednesday. P. Shah's 30th minute strike gave CCFC the lead but it was short-lived as Pritam Mistry equalised three minutes later. Ten minutes later S. Prasad scored the match-winner. — Our Special Correspondent
