UKD leader blasts Govt. over capital issue

By Our Staff Correspondent

DEHRA DUN.MAR.29. The Uttarakhand Kranti Dal leader, Kashi Singh Airi, today accused the ruling Congress and erstwhile BJP- led Government at the Centre of having betrayed the faith of the hill people by announcing Dehra Dun as the temporary Capital of Uttaranchal.

Speaking at length in the Vidhan Sabha, Mr Airi said first the National Democratic Alliance- led Centre found it convenient to shelve the recommendations of the Ramashankar Kaushik Committee forwarded to it by the Uttar Pradesh Assembly and now the Congress Government in the State was trying to avoid declaring Gairsen as the Capital by taking shelter behind the Capital Identification Commission.

Over 65 percent of the population wants Gairsen as the Capital and the Government should accept the demand before the masses take to mass protests, he said.

The Parliamentary Affairs and PWD Minister, Indira Hideyesh said that the issue of a permanent Capital was being studied by the Commission with the help of technical experts and a decision would be taken as soon as the report came in.
