U.P. gears up to face bandh

LUCKNOW, MARCH 29. The Uttar Pradesh Government has issued instructions for maintaining law and order in the State in view of the various bandh and protest calls given by trade bodies against the implementation of Value-added tax.

Civil and police officials in all districts have been asked to keep a strict vigil and prevent any untoward incident during the bandh period, official sources said here today.

Officials have especially been asked to ensure that there was no disruption in road and rail transport, they said adding the intelligence network has also been alerted in view of the bandh. The Akhil Bharatiya Udyog Vyapar Mandal and allied organisations have called a four-day `'Bharat mahabandh' from today in protest against the implementation of the new tax regime from April 1. PTI
