THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MARCH 29. The Principal Sub-judge, S.S. Vasan, has issued an order attaching the Thiruvananthapuram District Treasury for realising Rs 1.9 crores the Government owes to the legal heirs of a contractor. The order has come in the wake of default of payment by the Government despite repeated directives from the court. A copy of the order was served to the district treasury officer on Monday. According to advocate P.A. Dev, who appeared on behalf of the late contractor Y.A. Abraham, a sole arbitrator was originally appointed to settle the dispute between the parties over a construction work for the Kallada Irrigation Project. The arbitrator passed an award of Rs. 99.87 lakhs with interest to the contractor in 1992. The amount, which the legal heirs of the contractor are entitled to, stands at Rs. 1.9 crores with interest.
