Temperature

TIRUCHI, MARCH 29. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 36.6 degree Celsius and a minimum of 26.7 degree Celsius.

Postponed

The closure of the Salem - Vriddhachalam metre gauge section has been postponed.

Trains on this section will run as usual until further notice, a Southern Railway release issued here today said.

Demonstration

Members of the Southern Railway Mazdoor Union, Goldenrock workshop division, staged a demonstration in front of the Armoury Gate of the workshop here today, pressing their charter of demands.

The demonstration was led by S. Veerasekaran, assistant general secretary.

Their demands included the setting up of the sixth pay commission and immediate disbursement of House Rent Allowance arrears.

The demonstrators also urged the railway administration to find a permanent solution to the drinking water problem in the Goldenrock railway colony and to modernise the railway hospital.

Permission for assessment

The Central Board of Excise and Customs has permitted service providers to adjust any excess service if paid under provisional assessment on or before March 31 in April.

A press release from the office of the Commissioner of Central Excise here advised all service providers to make full use of this trade facilitation measure.

Mettur level

The level in the Mettur dam stood at 52.26 feet today.

The inflow was 185 cusecs and the discharge 900 cusecs.
