Gannavaram airport recorded a maximum temperature of 38 degree Celsius and a minimum of 24.7 degree Celsius on Tuesday. Humidity, which was 76 per cent in the morning, dropped to 54 per cent in the evening.

The following were the prices (in rupees per kg) of essential commodities in the local wholesale market on Tuesday: Groundnut oil - 48.50, palmolein oil - 39.75 sunflower oil - 47.50, tamarind (flower variety) - 21 to 26, tamarind (karipuli variety) - 39 to 46, chillies (refrigerated) - 18 to 20, chillies (new) - 18 to 23, rice (2716) - 12, rice superfine - 14, Sona Masoori - 16 to 17, Samba Masoori 15 to16, black gram (pottu minapappu) -21.80 to 24.20, red gram (kandipappu) desavali - 21, Pandiripalem - 24 and Nagpur 25.25.

Bandh call

The Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry has urged traders to observe bandh on Wednesday to protest against the VAT system.

Its general secretary, Ravuri Venkateswarlu, in a statement said the all India trade body called upon traders to observe bandh on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Clothes

distributed

The City Congress Committee general secretary, Kandi Gangadhara Rao, distributed clothes to the physically challenged and destitute persons at the Nirmal Hridaya Bhavan to commemorate the diamond jubilee of the `Dandi march' here on Tuesday.

The city Congress president, Kadiyala Butchibabu, the former deputy mayors -- M. Subba Rao and V. Satyanarayana -- and others participated.

The Governor, Sushil Kumar Shinde, presented a gold medal to the Chiranjeevi Voluntary Blood Donors' Club state co-ordinator, G. Samaram, for conducting 106 blood donation camps and collecting 7,257 units of blood from volunteers in 2005-06.

Selected

Mulpuri Druva of the Students Kofukan Karate Club was selected to participate in the all India tournament being conducted by the All India Karate Federation (AIKF) in Chennai on April 24. Druva will participate in the 10-11 age group.
