Sales tax dues: one arrested

KOCHI, MARCH 29. The Vadakkekkara police arrested a businessman on the charge of non-payment of sales tax worth Rs. 23 lakhs. The owner of Chennamangalam Copra Agency, K.P. Sabu, initially owed Rs. 8 lakhs as sales tax. With there being delay in payment, the amount reached Rs. 23 lakhs, inclusive of interest rate.

He was later produced before the Additional District Magistrate.

Education seminar

The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) will organise a seminar on ``Education and Entrepreneurship'' on Wednesday at Hotel Harbour View Residency. The participants include Murli Pendharkar, Chief Consultant, The Gurukul, Thiruvananthapuram, Mary Roy, Principal of Pallikoodam, Vijayaraghavan, Director of the International School, Thiruvananthapuram, and Sreekumar, Dean, DSCMAT, Vagamon.

Training programme

Kerala Productivity Council in association with the Kochi chapter of the Computer Society of India organised a training programme on management of computer virus here today. Thirty participants from various organisations attended the programme held at International Hotel.

Diversion

of buses

The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) is reportedly under a lot of pressure on the issue of diverting long-distance private buses through the Kaloor-Kadavathra Road. Sources in the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) expressed doubts whether RTA's proposal to re-route buses through the road from April 4 will materialise. "This is because the final list of buses which would be diverted has not been released yet," the sources said.

Mega show

The Navy Wives Welfare Association (NWWA) will organise a mega show titled ``A Nite on the Nile'' at the Southern Naval Command Officers' mess on April 9. Leading singers and VJs from Mumbai will attend the show. The proceeds of the show will go towards funding various welfare activities of the NWWA, especially in the field of education of spastics and lesser-privileged children.

Holiday

Central Government offices including industrial establishments will remain closed on April 14 on account of the birthday of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, according to an official communication.
