HYDERABAD, MARCH 29. Parents of a youngster, Santosh (22), who was arrested on charge of abducting a teenaged girl, attempted suicide in front of the Kukatpally police station on Tuesday accusing the police of harassing their son. Bhoomaiah and Chandrakala doused themselves in kerosene and tried to set afire themselves when the Kukatpally Inspector, Radhakrishna, intervened and pacified them. While the couple alleged that Santosh was implicated in a false case, the Inspector maintained that a case was booked after receiving a complaint from the girl's parents. A first year student of Nalanda College, the girl used to visit Remedy hospital where her father was admitted for a surgery. The hospital worker, Santosh, befriended her and allegedly eloped with her on February 17. Initially, a missing case was booked by the police following a complaint lodged by the girl's parents. The girl returned to her house on March 28 accusing Santosh of abducing and raping her. "Though the girl's parents alleged that Santosh raped the girl, we have booked only an abduction case and inquiring into other charges," the Inspector explained.
