Housewife

relieved of cash

Miscreants took away gold ornaments weighing eight tolas and Rs. 22,000 from a housewife after diverting the latter's attention near the Assembly on Tuesday. The victim, Hussaini (38), was returning to her Red Hills residence in a Maruti van when a pedestrian stopped her near the Assembly saying she had run over his leg. Ms. Hussaini opened the right side window glass and looked out only to see the stranger hurrying away. Later, she found her handbag, stolen, the police said.

Boy drowned

A five-year-old boy, Sai Kumar, died on Monday after accidentally falling into a septic tank at BJR Nagar slum in Filmnagar. The victim was playing around with other kids and suddenly fell into the tank.

Youth run over

Fayaz (20) died on the spot after an RTC bus knocked down the scooter he was riding at Himayathnagar on Tuesday. Fayaz came under the rear wheels of the bus. Vehicles seized

The Kachiguda Traffic Police have seized two Maruti vans being unauthorisedly used as pollution testing vehicles. In the first instance, a van having a board written `Pollution-Task Force' was spotted near the Distance Education office campus. The owner of the van, Srinivasa Rao, is absconding. Another van was found opposite Shivam temple. The driver, Thirupathi Reddy, abandoned the vehicle and ran away.
