THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MARCH 29. The Health Department's mass drug administration programme for the elimination of filariasis has achieved a total coverage of 55.5 per cent in the district, according to official sources. Volunteers of the Health Department made house-visits on Tuesday also to distribute the anti-filariasis drug. The urban population coverage achieved is only 30 per cent; in the rural areas, 61 per cent of the population has been covered. As a follow-up measure, the drug would be distributed tomorrow also, officials said. The programme, which was implemented in 11 districts, has covered 75.6 per cent of the target population in the State, an official statement said. Anti-filariasis drugs were distributed to 220 lakh people in the past two days.
