No water for Sonia Vihar plant
By Our Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI,
MARCH 29.
There is no immediate respite in sight for water-starved Delhi as a high-level meeting held here today to revive the 140 MGD Sonia Vihar water treatment plant failed to ensure raw water supply for the plant from Uttar Pradesh.
The meeting held between top officials of the Union Water Resource Ministry, the National Water Commission, the Delhi Government, and the Uttar Pradesh Government failed to break the deadlock as the Uttar Pradesh Government reportedly declined to commit raw water from the Ganga canal for operating the newly-commissioned plant.
A couple of months ago the Uttar Pradesh had agreed to supply 80 cusecs water from the Upper Ganga Canal for flushing of the plant.
But once the water supply from Uttar Pradesh stopped about a week ago, the plant was again rendered non-functional.
