BANGALORE, MARCH 30. Gammon India, ABG Group and Afcons have submitted the technical and financial bids for developing and operating a new container terminal at Kandla port on a build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis for a 30-year period. All the three short-listed bidders have tied-up with experienced management contractors to qualify for bidding since all the three entities were not meeting the experience criteria of having operated a two lakh twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) capacity terminal for any of the last three years. Gammon India has tied-up with Mercy Docks & Harbour of the U.K., while ABG has roped in Voltry Terminals, which runs a box terminal at Genoa in Italy as its management contractor, company officials told The Hindu. Afcons, on the other hand, has teamed up with Hamburg Port Authority (HHLA), a public-listed company that operates Hamburg Port, to bid for the Rs. 200 crore project with a capacity to handle 4.5 lakh TEUs from two berths having a draft of 13.5 metres and a total quay length of 520 metres. The price bids will be opened during the first week of April and the successful bidder will be awarded the contract by the middle of April. Kandla Port Trust will hand over berth nos. 11 and 12 to the successful bidder for handling containers.
