Exporters protest
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
MARCH 30.
Exporters today threatened to stage a dharna here on April 21 to protest `harassment' at the hands of the income tax authorities, who are demanding tax on DEPB premium. They have also threatened to stop exports from May 1 in case their grievances are not redressed.
"Exporters throughout the country are being harassed by income tax authorities, who are attaching their bank accounts, offices and properties to collect tax on the income from the Duty Entitlement Passbook Scheme, which was a duty neutralisation measure," O. P. Garg, President, Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), said at a media conference.
