TIRUPATI, MARCH 30. For the first time, Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) has come out with a vision document with an action plan to transform the place of higher learning into a role model for excellence. The document, entitled `Contours of Higher Education: A journey towards academic excellence', focussed on areas like promotion of academic excellence, resource mobilisation, networking, industry/community interaction, student counselling, placement and training among other things. Speaking after releasing the document, the TTD Trust Board Chairman, T. Subbirami Reddy, explained how the TTD was closely associated with and involved in the smooth functioning of the varsity. On a plea made earlier by the Vice-Chancellor, S. Jayarama Reddy, to provide a grant of Rs. 20 crores to SVU to help it tide over the financial crisis, he assured to place the issue before the trust board. Expressing happiness at the release of the document, Sudha Murthy, president, Infosys Foundation, formerly a teacher herself, went nostalgic on her profession, adding that teaching was in her blood. Evincing interest in `Disaster Management', a subject proposed to be introduced in the university, Ms. Murthy said that her foundation was involved in extending relief to the victims of drought, floods and recent tsunami.
