SAITAMA (JAPAN), MARCH 30. Mohamad Ahmed Salmeen scored an own goal in the second half on Wednesday to give Japan a 1-0 win over Bahrain in a key Asian World Cup qualifier. Japan, which lost to Iran 2-1 last week, picked up a valuable three points at Saitama Stadium after the Bahrain midfielder fired into his own net while attempting to clear a loose ball in the 72nd minute. Japan's next game is on June 3 at Bahrain. The top two teams in each of the final Asian qualifying groups advance directly to the World Cup finals. The third-placed teams from Group A and Group B will play off for the right to take on a CONCACAF team in an intercontinental playoff for a spot at Germany 2006. AP
