JAIPUR, MARCH 30. The former Rajasthan Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot, today accused the State Government of laxity in procurement of mustard from farmers at the minimum support price (MSP). The Government's complicity with the traders was forcing the farmers to sell their produce at distress prices, he charged. Mr. Gehlot said that the farmers had been happy about the good harvest of mustard in the current season but the State Government's indifference was making them run from pillar to post for the disposal of their produce at remunerative prices. The farmers were being forced to sell mustard at Rs.500-600 less per quintal, he alleged in a statement. Mr. Gehlot said the State Government should have made adequate and timely arrangements for the purchase of mustard keeping in mind the good harvest this time. However, instead, the Government left the farmers at the mercy of the market forces.
