HYDERABAD, MARCH 30. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, has accused the Government of shying away from the Assembly debate on important issues and behaving in a most irresponsible manner. Speaking to reporters in the Assembly here on Tuesday, Mr. Naidu said the Government was afraid of facing the Opposition when important issues were raised. He decried the attitude of the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and the Congress members in launching a direct attack on the TDP. He said corruption had taken centre stage in 10-month-old Congress Government and the TDP had tried its best to expose it. However, the treasury benches had made a conscious attempt to avoid discussion on issues like corruption in irrigation tenders, the new excise policy, sufferings of the ryots due to poor remunerative prices, plight of artisans and deteriorating law and order.
Witch-hunting
Whenever the TDP members tried to rake up the issues, the treasury benches hurled personal accusations. He said the Government had resorted to witch-hunting and victimised the TDP leaders. The Chief Minister himself was leading the onslaught.
Charge denied
Mr. Naidu denied the Congress allegation that the TDP had wasted the time of the Assembly. He said the TDP was only trying to draw the attention of the Speaker to give them time to raise issues.
