HYDERABAD, MARCH 30. Sixty prominent writers today appealed to the State Government not to place any restrictions on writers, poets and artists. In a signed statement, they called upon the Government not to take any action against the CPI (Maoist) emissaries, Varavara Rao, Gadar and Kalyana Rao. The appeal comes in the wake of speculation that the State administration, particularly the police, is planning to initiate some steps against the trio. The writers said that it was "politically unwise to persecute mediators." The writers, who included Dasaradhi Rangacharya, Muppala Ranganayakamma and Vasireddy Seetadevi, recalled that the cases filed by the State against revolutionary writers in the past could not stand legal scrutiny. Hence, the Government, they said, would do well to drop any move to proceed against the three writers.
The signatories
Prominent among others who signed the statement were Chekuri Rama Rao, K. Siva Reddy, Jwalamukhi, Singamaneni Narayana, S.V. Satyanarayana, Ramamohana Rao, Kethu Vishwanatha Reddy,. B.S. Ramulu, Volga, Muktavaram Parthasarathy, Atluri Murali, Mohan, Kothapalli Ravibabu, Chandra, Gorati Venkanna, Sikhamani, Yakub, Telakapalli Ravi, Naveen, M. Ratnamala and M.T. Khan.
