Credit plan focuses on crop loans

KURNOOL, MARCH 30. The Kurnool district Collector, Vikas Raj, launched the annual credit plan for 2005-06 with an outlay of Rs. 1,736 crores here on Wednesday. The allocations are an enhancement of 28.10 per cent over the last year's budget of 1355.72 crores.

The priority sector was allotted Rs. 1398.48 crores which include Rs. 922.96 crores for agriculture sector and Rs 76.17 crores for allied activities. The crop loan segment was allotted Rs 724.86 crores accounting for 51.83 per cent of allocation to priority sector.

Sectors in focus

The allocations for other activities include Rs 59.68 crores for farm mechanisation, Rs. 32.45 crores for dairy development, Rs 17.79 crores for sheep and goat rearing and Rs. 4.22 crores for forestry. The plan laid emphasis on micro-irrigation, housing, investment credit and micro-credit. A total of 8,125 hectares would be covered under the drip and sprinkler irrigation. Also, 21,926 SHG groups were provided a credit of Rs 51.46 crores.

Call to bankers

Addressing the bankers, the Collector said all farmers having pass books should be brought under institutional credit. Banks should give priority to farmers who had not borrowed from them so far. He said under the Rajiv Grihakalpa scheme, 6,750 houses would be constructed this year. He said each bank should ideally sponsor loans for at least 100 housing units in each municipality.

The support of the banks for schemes take up in collaboration with women groups was good, the PD, Indira Kranti Patham, Venkatrami Reddy, said. The NABARD, AGM, Ravindra urged the bankers to support the organic farming programme which had a subsidy component of 25 per cent from the Centre.
