LUCKNOW, MARCH 30. The 72-hour nation-wide bandh called by trade bodies against implementation of Value Added Tax from April 1 evoked a good response in Uttar Pradesh on the first day today with a large number of business establishments downing their shutters. Except roadside kiosks and vending outlets, most shops in Lucknow were closed while traders held demonstrations at various places. Bharatiya Udyog Vyapar Pratinidhimandal general secretary Banwari Lal Kanchal claimed the bandh had registered excellent response across the State. Wholesale and retail chemist shops were part of the strike today while petrol pumps would be closed tomorrow, he said.
