MALAPPURAM, MARCH 30. The State Government's Cultural Department is learned to have plans to increase the pension being given to poor Mapila artistes in the State. At present, the artistes get a pension of Rs. 400 a month. Last date to apply for the pension is April 10. A statement issued by the Mahakavi Moyinkutty Vaidyar Memorial Committee said today that poor artistes who had contributed to various Mapila art forms such as Mapilapattu, Oppana, Padappattu, Duff Muttu, Aravana Muttu, Mapila Kolkali and Mehfils could apply for pension. The applicants should be above 50 years of age and have an income of not more than Rs. 750 a month. Older applicants will be given preference, said Azad Wandoor, secretary of the Vaidyar Memorial Committee. Applicants should produce an income certificate issued by the village officer. School certificate or a government doctor's certificate should be produced in proof of age. Applicants should also attach attested copies of the certificates or citations or newspaper clippings as a proof of their excellence. The application should reach the Secretary, Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Akademi, Thrissur, before April 10. The Akademi will scrutinise the applications and then recommend to the Government.
