PATHANAMTHITTA, MARCH 30. The first Episcopal Synod of the Malankara Catholic Church began this afternoon at the Pushpagiri Seminar Hall on the premises of Pushpagiri Medical College (PMC), Thiruvalla. The Catholicos and Major Archbishop of the Church, Cyril Mar Baselius, presided over the Synod, which began after the prayers at the Cherupushpagiri Aramana at 4.30 p.m. The Synod secretary and the Muvattupuzha Bishop, Thomas Mar Koorilos, presented a report on the occasion. Bishops such as Geevarghese Mar Themotheos, Isaac Mar Cleemis (Thiruvalla), Geevarghese Mar Divannaseus (Batherry), Youhanon Mar Chrysostom (Marthandom), the newly ordained bishop, Joseph Mar Thomas and the Auxiliary Bishop of Thiruvananthapuram, Joshua Mar Ignateus, attended the Synod. Mar Baselius will lead the blessing ceremony of the newly-built hospital block-cum-shopping complex attached to the PMC tomorrow afternoon. The Catholicos and the newly-ordained bishop, Joseph Mar Thomas, will be accorded a reception tomorrow afternoon. The three-day Synod will conclude on April 1.
