PU student attempts suicide

BANGALORE, MARCH 30. A 19-year-old pre-university student, who was reportedly caught red-handed for examination malpractice, attempted suicide at Surana College in Jayanagar on Wednesday.

The police said the student, Venkatagiri of Mavalli, jumped from the 1st floor of the college building after he was debarred from the examination for copying.

He has been admitted to Sagar Apollo Hospital where he is said to be out of danger.

Two murdered

A 40-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man were allegedly murdered in separate incidents in and around the city on Tuesday.

Manjunath (22) allegedly murdered his mother, Byramma (40) in A.K. Colony near Chikkabanavar on the outskirts of the city enraged at her perceived infidelity.

The Soladevanahalli police said Byramma had eloped with a neighbour about five years ago after the death of her husband.

A few days ago she returned home. The gossip about the episode hurt Manjunath and his brothers. On Tuesday night, Manjunath allegedly strangled her to death using her sari, the police said.

Manjunath has been arrested and remanded in judicial custody till April 13.

In the other case, Perumal (48), a daily wage earner, was found dead in his make-shift house on a farm on the Ring Road in Mahadevapura police station limits.

The police said he was found strangled with a plastic rope. The police suspect the involvement of his wife, Muniamma, and daughter, Kasturi, in the incident.

It is said he came home drunk and assaulted the two regularly.

He reportedly misbehaved with Kasturi and questioned the fidelity of Muniamma, the police said.

However, the women have claimed that they were away at a relative's house when the incident took place. They have said that the deceased had quarrelled with them on Tuesday afternoon.

Body recovered

The Magadi Road police on Tuesday recovered the body of an unidentified 70-year-old man from near the Karimariyamma temple on 10th `C' Main of Rajajinagar 6th Block. He was wearing jeans shorts, the police said.

Chains snatched

Two men, who came in an autorickshaw and snatched the gold chain of Munivenkamma, valued at Rs. 20,000, at Banashankari II Stage on Tuesday.

The police said she was walking towards a temple when the incident occurred.

In another case, a thief snatched a gold chain, also worth Rs. 20,000, from a woman who was sleeping near an open window in her house in M.S.R. Nagar in Sanjayangar police limits on Tuesday night.
