HYDERABAD, MARCH 30. Junior doctors of Government Dental College and Hospital, Hyderabad, on Wednesday decided to stay away from their duties for an indefinite period in protest against the `high-handed' behaviour of a professor. Speaking to reporters here, the graduate and post-graduate students, affiliated to the Andhra Pradesh Junior Doctors Association (APJDA), accused the professor in the Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology of mentally harassing them and threatening them with dire consequences if they opposed her actions. The junior doctors -- Sudheer, G. Ramlal and N. Rupa -- and others said the professor always discouraged students and repeatedly admonished them. The doctors also alleged that the professor used to fail students in the examination, against whom she bore personal grudges. Citing an example of her harassment, they said a pregnant post-graduate student was posted in the Radiology Department despite knowing the health hazards the duty could pose to the student. They also alleged that some unknown persons, claiming to be calling from the office of a Union Minister, threatened those opposing the professor's actions. Several representations had been made to the Principal Secretary, Health and other officials concerned, but no action had been taken so far.
