ERODE, MARCH 31. The Municipal Chairman, M. Subramanian, today presented Rs. 1.30-crore surplus budget for 2005-2006 at the council meeting. he Chairman said that the projected income to the municipality during 2005-2006 including the opening balance would be Rs. 62.46 crores. Of this, it was expected that Rs. 61.16 crores would be spent for expenditure, including the salaries of municipal employees and scheme works. The Chairman said that in the three years of their assuming office, this was the first time he presented a surplus budget.
Development works
Of the total amount, Rs. 6.31 crores had been allotted for construction of various buildings in the 45 municipal wards and Rs. 22.08 crores for construction of drainages in the town. A high level bridge would be constructed across the Perumpallam odai at Rs. 75 lakhs. Mr. Subramanian said that Rs. 34.31 crores would be spent for development works. He assured that equal importance would be given to all municipal wards in the execution of works. Under Vision 2005, the municipality would undertake development works such as replacing water distribution pipelines and constructing two overhead water tanks. Under the same scheme, repair works at the municipal elementary school would be done and additional classrooms would be constructed.
