Pourakarmikas begin indefinite dharna

HUBLI,
MARCH 31.
Members of the Dharwad District Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe Pourkarmikas and Employees' Association today began an indefinite dharna protesting against the delay in conceding their demands. Revoking contract-based and package systems, implementation of I.D.P. Salappa Committee Report, fixing minimum wages for pourkarmikas, and recruitment of pourkarmikas are some of the demands of the association. The association had earlier threatened to go on strike, but following an assurance from the Commissioner, Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, they decided to wait for some time. As no action was taken on the demands, the protest has become inevitable, a spokesman of the association, Vijay M. Guntral, said.
