Letters to the Editor
Sir, The Union Cabinet decision to reintroduce a bill to amend the Factories Act to permit women to work in late-night shifts in some industries is welcome. But it should be ensured by the managements that the women on night shifts are not subjected to harassment of any kind.
C.P. Velayudhan Nair,
Sir, Women live rather different lives from men: equal work opportunities do not necessarily ensure equality at home. A woman working in the night shift may not be able to catch up on her sleep during the day as men do because household and nurturing duties are not distributed equally.
A. Meghana,
